Here's The Email-Alerts Service That BuzzFeed's ... - Business Insider

If you haven't heard of Newsle, a service which alerts you whenever your friends make the news, you will soon.

That's because Jonah Peretti, the viral genius behind the Huffington Post and BuzzFeed?as well as some of the fastest-spreading Internet memes around?is a fan.

?"I use it every day," Peretti told fellow tech entrepreneur Marshall Kirkpatrick on Twitter today.

"The email alerts are amazing," Peretti added. "I think every company and every person in business or media can use a service like this.

That's a heady endorsement for a company that just launched a few months ago with $600,000 in funding.

(Lerer Ventures, which backed the Huffington Post and Peretti's BuzzFeed, is an investor, so there might be a little all-in-the-family love. But we don't think the plainspoken Peretti would shill for Lerer.)

Newsle's offices are two doors over from Business Insider's West Coast world headquarters in San Francisco. We went to ask cofounder Jonah Varon, whom we run into at the coffee station every now and then, what he thought of the publicity, but he was too busy coding.

So we took a spy shot of him instead. (Seriously, Varon never stops working, as far as we can tell.)
